While kibble and canned foods are convenient for us to feed, during the extrusion process much of the beneficial enzymes, probiotics and vitamins are altered or destroyed. Adding unprocessed foods to your pets diet helps to diversify their gut microbiome, boosting their immunity in the process.

What exactly is a gut microbiome?
Microbiome are complex beneficial bacteria residing in our pets (and our) bodies, primarily in their digestive tract. They are responsible for several vital health functions including:
- Protecting against pathogens such as yeast, fungi and viruses
- Creating a barrier against toxins, carcinogens and allergens
- Feeding your pet by creating probiotics and enzymes that digest pets food
- Affecting your pets mood- scientists found that pets with more diverse gut flora respond better to stress and anxiety. In humans, studies show that having healthier gut leads to lower cases of depression.
- Are critical part of your pets immune system- overtime, feeding highly processed foods and being exposed to environmental toxins and drugs, depletes our pets gut of healthy bacteria. This leads to something called Dysbiosis (when harmful bacteria outgrow the healthy ones). Dysbiosis is believed to be the cause of many chronic diseases in pets like IBS/IBD, colitis and even cancer.
