Here are some tips for keeping those chompers clean:
- Feed a high quality, meat based diet. Foods with high carbohydrate/starch content contribute to dental issues. Feeding fresh foods helps to maintain healthy acidic environment of the mouth which prevents plaque build up.
- Offer your dog things to chew on such as raw meaty bones, bully sticks, antlers, beef cheeks, etc. Chews provide abrasive action which helps to scrape the tartar off the teeth. For cats we recommend cut up fish skins or Plato Baltic sprat treats.
- Have a regular teeth brushing routine set up, the sooner you introduce it to your dog, the better. We have variety of dental products to chose from including brush free dental gel and water additives to help with breath issues.
- Make sure your pet gets a dental check up at least once a year but ideally more. Pets are good at hiding pain, so you may not notice it until its too late. If you notice your dog or cat refusing to eat food or drooling, it's a good indication there may be something going on.
